Sick Days

They say that you can always count on death and taxes. For me, I can also always count on my Girl getting sick, and requiring time off school and work, either immediately before or after a vacation. Never fails- and this time was no exception. We just returned from a week in California, and we are scheduled to Leave for Denver to see friends for thanksgiving early next week. I should've just expected some sort of illness in between the two.

We've spent the past several days on house arrest, dealing with a nasty little bug. Luckily, I have a killer immune system and have been a bit OCD about handwashing since she started Kindergarten, so I think I dodged the bullet on getting sick myself. * fingers crossed*. A few more days is required before I can totally call out my win against Strep.

I kept thinking I should use my time at home to be productive, to do some of the things on my "get to this soon" list. But I found that trying to start a project when I had a little one who needed my time and attention was futile. So instead, we watched movies. We read books. We colored pictures. And we played with quite a few toys that hadn't seen the light of day for a while.

She's feeling much better now, and tonight she asked if she could make me a "surprise bedtime treat." After some bumps and rattles from the kitchen, this is what she proudly presented to me:

Hot chocolate, topped off with a giant star shaped marshmallow. The marshmallow, interestingly, was missing a Riley sized bite from it.

Her rationale: I told her she needed to eat when she took her medicine. The marshmallow was right there.

Even when she's sick, even when we are both a little stir crazy from being cooped up for too many day-this girl, she cracks me up.
